India: Rajasthan Photography Workshop 2025

Workshop Dates:

26 October 2025 to 7th November 2025

(12 nights)

Rajasthan truly feels like authentic India. It was never colonised - and the local people are still independently minded. It’s an incredible place, with ostentatious palaces, desert gypsies, enormous forts, rich colour and flavours, bustling street markets and historic stepwells.

We will visit Jodhpur, Pushkar, Jaipur and Agra, giving us a range of opportunities to help explore and develop your creativity in this unique setting.

Price is £3900 per participant.

The Itinerary

Jodhpur

26 October 2025 - 29 October 2025

Jodhpur is the famous Blue City of India, dominated by the incredible Mehrangarh Fort. I love shooting in Jodhpur as the Blue City is one of those places where magical things can happen. You can find people in the streets who are happy to be photographed, and can easily end up invited in for chai tea afterwards! The narrow alleys, staircases between streets, and bright blue paintwork makes for great street photography and location portraits. It’s easy to get about on foot although we will take an auto to the desert area to oversee the town and fort.

Accommodation is a central boutique hotel (one of my favourites in the world!) with a rooftop bar with views over the Blue City to the fort, adjacent to one of the historic stepwells, still used by local people today.

Pushkar

29 October 2025 - 1 November 2025

We will transfer to Pushkar on the 29 October 2025, just as the famous Pushkar Camel Fair is setting up on the edge of the Thar desert. Despite the Fair being well known amongst photographers it is still an incredible spectacle, offering many options for creative work. The camel trading is a large part of the Fair, however the Marwari horses are a fascinating addition. We will meet traders, local people and Gypsies.

Accommodation is in a former palace on a hill overlooking the town, complete with pool. It's a short auto (tuktuk) ride to the Fair.

Jaipur

1 November 2025 - 5 November 2025

After our desert adventure we will head to the luxury of the Pink City where accommodation will be another former Palace. We will visit famous landmarks, but the real treats in Jaipur are the mercantile areas and bazars. There is also the option to visit some stunning locations in the hills. However we do it, there’s plenty to shoot in this city, with its blend of ancient and modern.

Agra

5 November 2025 - 7 November 2025

We will stay two nights in Agra to visit and photograph the Taj and its surroundings. We will look at how the Taj has been shot by photographers in the past, and then bring our own perspectives to the shoot. And of course they'll be time for a guided tour of this incredible ivory-white marble monument to love.

Accommodation is a ecletic homestay complete with home cooked meals and a piano on the rooftop terrace.

About the Workshops

The Focus

The focus of the workshop is to develop and enhance your photography skillset. Spending time in each location allows us to really explore and develop individual imagery and short projects. I am much more than just a guide!

The Tutorials

Tutorials throughout the workshop will teach either a practical technique, including Lightroom, or an approach to the subject matter at hand. All supported by imagery from ambitious and successful contemporary and past photographers.

The Shoots

Shooting is generally at dawn and dusk for the best light. Daytime is to recce our locations, tutorials, photo reviews, independent sightseeing, and.. resting! At locations, I will be at hand to discuss approaches to subject matter as well as provide technical assistance.

Your Goals

Email James directly to discuss how this experience can help develop your creative goals. Everyone gets personal attention throughout each workshop to maximise your photographic growth.

International airports are in Delhi and Mumbai. Jodhpur, our starting location, is a short flight from either.  The workshop finishes in Agra, from where there is a fast train to Delhi. More information can be provided by email, and there will be an information pack after booking.
